Finally the day is upon us. Jon and I are hosting a FARM DAY here at the epicenter of farming activity – a day of fun, food, and animals!
Saturday June 30 9:00 am – 3:00 pm (rain date July 1)
20 Long Way, Hopewell
This is not really a public event, just a word-of-mouth gathering of people interested in seeing the farm and hearing more about the plans we have for the market and the restaurant (with some samples thrown in!).
Here’s what to expect…Hay Rides. You and your kids will be squired around the farm in luxury. Perched atop hay bales, you will have the best possible view of what’s happening.
We will hypnotize a chicken. Seriously.
It will go from this (I kid you not, the feathers were flying and the squawking was deafening in this picture):
To this:
It literally sits there. Calm. Quiet. Reflective, even. If babysitting were only this easy! This is our best party trick – pure magic. In 30 seconds’ time, this hen will fly up and resume making a racket as if nothing ever happened!
You will have an opportunity to see some pigs and I’m sure some piglets as they are practically running the joint.
They would appreciate some scraps, thank you very much. Which you can get over at Veggieland.
Don’t let Andrew let you know I called these veggies ‘scraps’!!
There will be cool activities for kids: egg toss (you were warned!!), coloring and decorating treats led by our very own Jen Carson.
Chris promises to get the kids into the dirt with a few sessions on composting.
You will also get a sampling of some pretty good eats made on or near the farm. Check out Bob’s masterpiece:
Bob, Lisa and Megan will answer any questions you have about the cheese – and offer you some delicious samples.
And there will certainly be some pork to pass around, cooked by Steve and Tim.
Last but certainly not least, you will meet some of the people that make the farm so special. Below is Orlando, Chris and Willson at the Temple Grandin event here at the farm last summer.
And Jen and Ken – they just got engaged this month!
And Dave and Deeann, who will be happy to take your cash for some pasture-raised meat.
Speaking of which, we will have pork, beef, chickens, eggs and produce for sale – so bring a cooler if you’re interested.
Most of all, we want you see where it all happens, interact with our fine people and have a good time.
Did I mention Bill Flemer and the Riverside Bluegrass Band will be playing? NO?! Well they are, and they are amazing. Click on the link and hear their music. You won’t be able to stop tapping your feet. Bring your lighter…
We hope you’ll join us.
-Robin and Jon.
Don’t forget your boots!
