Martin Tract – Past, Present and Future

Last week we had some neighbors over from The Bayberry Road – Elm Ridge Park area  to dicsuss what we are planning for the Martin Tract, which borders on their homes. One neighbor was kind enough to send me some pictures of the pond on the property from a year (in 1989) when it was actually frozen. Here is it below: frozen and in full bloom. I love the seasonal changes!

Many thanks, JK!

In short, our plan for this beautiful stretch of land is to graze our herds. We are fencing the perimeter and carving out a walking trail along the outside. Once again, we use a rotational grazing technique which has the herds moving daily to new grass, and the land recovering for approximately 45-60 days.

And there will be a few new ‘faces’ on the land come spring. We had 5 new calves born this weekend and the sheep should start lambing tomorrow! Pictures to come soon…
